Solar Danmark's new office building incorporates the latest climate-friendly and energy-efficient technology. In addition, Solar has chosen to establish a brand new knowledge centre – "Solar Explorium" – as part of this new building. This centre demonstrates in practice how businesses can halve their energy consumption by using energy and renewable energy sources intelligently. Today, Minister for Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard acknowledges this initiative by opening Solar Explorium together with Vejen's mayor Egon Fræhr.

Solar Explorium forms part of a new office building at Solar Danmark and is one of the first commercial buildings in Denmark to meet the requirements now for the so-called low energy class 1 buildings in Denmark that will become legally effective in 2015. Thus, the new building not only reduces energy consumption by 50% - it also does so 6 years early. It illustrates a way to meet demands right now on energy consumption in buildings set by politicians to become effective in 2015.

With this build which incorporates alternative energy sources – heating, ventilation and intelligent building control – Solar takes the heavily increased political focus on energy savings to heart and provides a workable formula for how businesses can significantly reduce their energy consumption and thus lower their CO2 emissions to match.

- It is really not that hard – we just have to apply all our knowledge. It is important that businesses help show how to reduce energy consumption. In addition, it is good that it is done in a way that may inspire other businesses and the whole industry. This is important as our buildings represent almost 40 per cent of Denmark's energy consumption, says Minister for Climate and Energy Connie Hedegaard.

Solar is also excited about today's opening.

- We are proud to present our build which already meets the requirements for a low energy class 1 building – requirements that do not become legally effective until 2015. We are very serious about energy savings. With this build which incorporates alternative energy sources – heating, ventilation and intelligent building control – we want to provide the industry and businesses with a workable formula for how to significantly reduce both our energy consumption and our CO2 emissions – and "Solar Explorium" lets the industry see these technologies in practice, says CEO Flemming H. Tomdrup, Solar A/S.

Solar Explorium offers workable demonstrations of energy management using state-of-the-art technology and energy-efficient solutions within the electrical, hws and ventilation fields. The knowledge centre represents the industry's combined competences and targets end users, contractors, consultants, suppliers and manufacturers. It demonstrates how the industry can provide a solution in which all technical aspects are integrated in one shared intelligent control system.

Photos from the event will be available on www.solar.eu Thursday afternoon.
