Solar Nederland is ready for tomorrow - powered by its own MICROGRID

With grid congestion increasing across the Netherlands and volatile energy prices becoming the norm, Solar Nederland decided it was time to take control of their energy system in Alkmaar.

We wanted to know exactly where our energy was being used. At the same time, we’re dealing with grid congestion in the Netherlands and are not allowed to feed energy back into the grid. That means solar panels simply shut down when they generate too much power. And with energy prices fluctuating wildly, we just want to stay in control. Remco van Haastrecht, VP Operations at Solar Nederland

Results speak for themselves

(Q1 2026 compared to Q1 2025):

  • ~58% reduction in energy consumption (heating + electricity)
  • ~68k reduction in total energy costs
  • ~85 tons less CO2 emitted
  • Stable, predictable and controlled energy supply
  • Payback time of 5.9 years!

The modular and scalable MICROGRID solution consists of

  • 660 kW Thermonova heat pump
  • 1 MW battery storage
  • 2,180 solar panels
  • 24 EV chargers
  • Energy Management System (EMS)
Solar panels, batteries, the building, Thermonova heat pumps, charging stations and the Energy Management System work together as one integrated system. The EMS knows exactly when energy should be stored, when we draw power from the grid and when it’s best used directly for the building or the vehicles. Everything revolves around timing and insight. No manual switching. No assumptions. The system makes decisions based on real-time data. That’s how you get maximum return from your installation.

Going through this process has also given us valuable insights that will benefit our customers.
