Mona Lisa Midtgaard Nielsen

Q: Why did you choose to start as a SAP trainee?

A: Having worked as a SAP superuser, I was asked whether the SAP trainee course might be of interest to me. I thought it sounded like a great idea, and I wanted to learn more about SAP. Here, I get the chance to get to learn the workings of SAP better in theoretical and practical terms.

Q: What's your background and how do you think it will contribute to your future work with SAP?

A: I'm a qualified Export Technician and have worked with logistics, customer service, order processing and purchasing at Velux and Gram Equipment, and have been with Solar for 3½ years in the Offshore Internal Sales Team. Which means I have a good understanding of the sales processes in the business, and know what the consequences of changing something are. Plus, having worked with SAP, I can see what's needed when using it out in the field.

Q: What do you think of the trainee course?

A: The course and the qualified candidates are aimed at Solar, to provide us with our own trained SAP Specialists who know the company, i.e. we don't have to get to know the company first. I think that's a big advantage. I expect to be understand better how to build a SAP system on top of being able to use it in practice.

Q: What do you like about working with SAP?

A: The best thing about SAP is that you can get deep into the system and see all the steps taken. You can troubleshoot and find where the problem is and correct it, to prevent it happening again. And that's something I like, going in-depth. SAP is a really good tool. It's simple and there are lots of ways to adapt it to a given company's needs.

Q: What's it like working at Solar?

A: Solar is a great place to work. You get the chance to try a bit of everything and are given a lot of freedom. You can change track if you want to try your hand at something else. I like all the interfaces and collaborations going on throughout the organisation. It's a great working environment and there's lots of flexibility in relation to how the work is organised.

Q: Why did you choose to start as a SAP trainee?

A: It's an exciting challenge. I like to try new things and want to get more involved with purchasing processes, where I think I can grow and improve. It offers a fresh perspective on my work and skills.

Q: What's your background and how do you think it will contribute to your future work with SAP?

A: I started my time at Solar working in the warehouse, originally as a summer job after studying at HHX level. After I'd been here just under 2 years, I did further training and have now been employed for 3 years as a Supply Chain Planner. That gave me a good understanding of the various departments and how they interact with each other.

Q: What do you think of the trainee course?

A: I like the fact that the course is straightforward - after 9 months, you're qualified. There are only 6 weeks of theory, the rest is practical work in Solar's SAP Team. You learn best by working with things in the company and getting involved in projects. Theory is all well and good, but it's practical experience that means the most. I'm looking forward to it, to getting something I can build on.

Q: What do you like about working with SAP?

A: There are lots of opportunities with SAP and you can shape it the way you want. And it's fun to play around in the system.

Q: What's it like working at Solar?

A: This is a good workplace. I think it's great to try something new and learn new skills. That's what drives me. And it's also something you can do at Solar. There are opportunities to gain new qualifications.

An investment in the future: Solar trains SAP specialists

It can be hard to find the employees you need. Competition for SAP personnel is fierce. The typical SAP specialist is aged 50-55, which means there will be a severe shortage in the market within a few years.

This made us create our own SAP trainee programme. A generational shift is coming, so this is among other things a sound investment in the future.
