At Solar, we are experts in logistics. We make sure contractors get the materials they need, when they need them. For large projects, this can be a big challenge – such as the construction of our new logistics centre in Kumla, Sweden.

You have probably heard about Solar's new logistics centre, which is due to be operational in 2026. The logistics centre of no less than 48,000 square meters is located in Kumla in south-central Sweden and will be the hub of Solar's Swedish operations.

When you read this, all the walls of the property have been erected and the roof laid – and inside there is now intensive installation work being done. Solar's electricity partner in the project, Granitor, is responsible for the installations and has been working on them since the beginning of the year. At most, there will be more than 25 electricians on site at the same time.

"The work continues at a good pace. All parties are on track with the schedule. Among other things, we have done a lot of preparatory work in laying wires for the lighting rails that will be out in the halls. The next step is to hang the rails themselves. There are 6,800 meters of rails to be installed, so we have a lot of work to do," says Henrik Hägglund, project manager at Granitor.

Two kilometers of cable ladder

Granitor has also done preparatory work for fire alarms and installed over a kilometre of cable ladder – and after that, all the cables will start to be laid.

"There is an incredible amount of material to be used in an installation like this. So, the key is to make sure we get all the material – when we need them. Logistics is a much bigger issue than the installation itself," says Henrik Hägglund, and continues:

"Here, I must also say that Solar has excelled. They show that they are experts in logistics. The deliveries have been coordinated so that they take place at four different locations around the building, where they are then unloaded and driven in by forklift. We usually have all the material we need for 1-2 weeks ahead, and it works very well.

Intensive logistics work

The brain behind the logistics is called Roberth Blom and is based at Solar's Swedish headquarters in Gothenburg.

"Working on this project is great fun, as it clearly shows how good Solar's services actually are. This is top-notch logistics. We have held workshops with our electrical partner Granitor and our HVAC partner Rörtjänst to work together to solve how we can best deliver the material," Roberth Blom says and continues:

"It's about everything from how the materials are ordered, over how boxes are labelled to how the materials are delivered to the site. All in all, this means that we can create a supply chain that is fast, efficient and kind to the environment.

When all the work is finished, Solar will have one of Northern Europe's most outstanding logistics facilities. The property will have a high degree of automation, which also places extra high demands on the electrical installations.

"This is a super cool project to be a part of. I usually say that this is not a warehouse – it's an industry. There are robots, automation and control everywhere. It will be as good as it gets," concludes Henrik Hägglund.
